Wheelchair FAQ

What is the difference between a manual wheelchair, a transport chair and a power wheelchair?

A manual wheelchair has large rear wheels so the user can push themselves. A transport chair has small wheels and is pushed by a caregiver, so it is lighter and more compact. A power wheelchair runs on a battery and is driven with a joystick, so no pushing is needed.

How do I choose the right wheelchair seat width?

Measure across the widest part of the hips while seated and add about 1 to 2 inches. Most adult wheelchairs come in 16, 18 and 20 inch seat widths, and bariatric models start at about 20 inches.

What is the lightest wheelchair you sell?

Our lightest manual wheelchair is the Human Care Featherweight at 13.5 lbs. Our lightest power wheelchair is the Travel Buggy AeroLux 2C at 33 lbs.

Can I rent a wheelchair?

Yes, we rent manual and transport wheelchairs with same-day pickup at our Concord showroom. See our wheelchair rentals in Toronto and the GTA. Power wheelchairs are available for purchase only.

Does insurance cover the cost of a wheelchair?

Many extended health insurance plans reimburse part of the cost, depending on your plan. We provide a detailed invoice and product documentation for your claim, and Buy Now, Pay Later financing is available at checkout.

Do you repair wheelchairs?

Yes. Our certified technicians provide in-house repairs and maintenance for wheelchairs bought or rented from us. See our maintenance and repair services.
